A DEAD dolphin has washed up on the promenade.

The common dolphin was found by Robb Banks this morning at about 8.30am behind Hove Lagoon.

The Dolphin Society, based in Brighton, said: "We have recently just been sent news of this dolphin found dead today in Hove.

The Argus:

"Should you happen to see a stranded, dolphin, or seal (alive or dead) we recommend British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) for live animals or Natural History Museum's Strandings Team for dead animals."

The discovery comes after hurricane-force winds caused havoc at the weekend.

Ferocious gales tore down scaffolding, felled trees, and disrupted transport across the county.

Staff at Newhaven National Coastwatch Institution said they recorded “force 12 hurricane gusts” of 73mph on Saturday afternoon.

The fire service received more than 200 emergency calls.
