A HOSPITAL worker raised concerns after several lifts at his workplace broke down.

The employee at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, who did not wish to be named, said the defective lifts included one which would take patients to theatre.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust have now addressed the issue. A spokesman said: “On Wednesday and Thursday of last week the Royal Sussex County Hospital experienced technical difficulties with four of its lifts.”

He continued: “This is less than ten per cent of the total lift capacity across the hospital site.

“Patient transfers continued in a safe and timely manner throughout this period using other available lifts.

“Three of these lifts are now back in service and parts are on order to fix the other one.

“Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust is running a comprehensive programme of work to improve the lifts at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

“The lifts that had the recent, short-term technical difficulties are included in the planned works.”
