THE mystery of a young girl seen getting into a car with a man in his 40s after an argument has been solved.

Police say they have confirmed that the man is her father and that the girl is “safe and well”.

Officers investigated the incident after a witness described seeing three teenage girls in Upper Boundstone Lane, Lancing, at 10pm on Thursday.

An argument allegedly broke out between one of the girls a man in his 40’s driving a silver or grey hatchback car.

The force urged further witnesses, or anyone with information on the incident, to contact them as they made further enquiries.

The car was later traced and it was discovered that the man and girl were father and daughter.

Detective Constable Francesca Safiruddin said; “This was a false alarm but it was raised with good intent, and it was important for us to make sure the girl was safe.”
