PEDESTRIANS had to jump out of the way as a car smashed into an estate agents in a late night hit and run.

The shopfront of SJ Property Services in Lewes Road, Brighton, was shattered and a large piece of the car’s bonnet was left strewn across the pavement.

The area was cordoned off an police and fire services remained at the scene into the early hours.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “At 11.20pm on Tuesday a car was reported to have left the road and hit the wall of an office building in Lewes Road, Brighton, before driving away.

“Two men were reported to have evaded the car as it crossed the pavement.

“The area was searched but the car was not found and enquiries are continuing to trace it.

“The reason for the incident is not yet known.

“There were no reports of injuries. The building was checked by engineers and assessed as structurally sound.
