LABOUR has announced its MP candidate for a Sussex seat hours after the Lib Dems announced they would not contest it.
Former Brighton and Hove City Council candidate Adam Imanpour has been selected by Labour to run in Brighton Pavilion.
The seat is currently held by Green Caroline Lucas, who was elected in the 2017 General Election with 52 per cent of the vote.
Meanwhile the Lib Dems announced they were withdrawing their candidate for the seat, Paul Chandler, for the second election running as part of a “Remain Alliance”.
The deal was brokered between the Greens and Lib Dems by the newly-formed Unite to Remain campaign group.
Brighton Lib Dem chairwoman Hilary Ellis claimed splitting the Remain vote was a “real risk”.
