POLICE are investigating a 'violent incident' in a town centre.

Officers cordoned off the area surrounding Worthing Town Hall in Chapel Road yesterday evening.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "Police are investigating after three people were involved in a violent incident which occurred at 4.45pm on Thursday.

"Two men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of assault and are currently in police custody.

"Both men sustained head injuries and were initially taken to Worthing Hospital.

"One, aged 27, is from Portsmouth, and the other, aged 28, is of no fixed address. The woman, 20, is from Worthing.

"Anyone who saw what happened or who may have other relevant information, including CCTV or dash-cam footage, is asked to contact Sussex Police online or phone 101, quoting serial 1061 of 07/11.

"Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously, telephone 0800 555 111."

The force arrived at the scene shortly before 5pm and stayed for several hours.

A large number of officers were stationed around the area as police looked into the incident further.
