A BAR which became embroiled in an altercation with a celebrity over naming rights is to close.

Cease And Desist took over The Globe pub in Middle Street, Brighton, in July.

Owner Jake Goldstein had planned to name it the “Les Dennis Lounge” on account of his love for the TV presenter of Family Fortunes fame.

But Jake said his idol had turned down his generous offer and refused to have the pub named after him, though it still featured several cardboard cut-outs of him.

Now Jake has announced on social media he will be calling time at the bar for good on Saturday.

He said: “The most important thing to us is just a big thank you. Firstly, to our team who are literally the only thing that really matters about Cease And Desist, or any bar really. You guys have been incredible.

“Next is you guys... we wanted to create a space that encouraged freedom of expression and allowed everyone to be themselves. We believe that we accomplished that.

“This would not have been possible without every single one of you. Every piece of graffiti, every random item donated to the walls and every time we saw a mischievous smile on someone’s face, it all meant the world to us and all made it worth it.

“We didn’t make any money and it’s over sooner than we liked but it made us happy to spend that time with you guys and I can tell you right now that Les Dennis would be proud.”
