A ROAD is in such a poor condition that residents cannot use it to access their driveways.

The Promenade in Peacehaven has become increasingly damaged by bad weather.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I live right on the front and the road in front of us is an unmade road.

“It’s like a river when it rains, and it washes away the surface of the road.

“The road is so bad with potholes and valleys, and some are over a foot deep due to rain water washing

away the surface so I can’t gain access to my drive because the underside of my car grates along the road surface.

“It annoys me that the council isn’t doing anything.

“It’s a busy road because a lot of people have to use it to get into their drive. I’m so fed up.”

A spokesman for Lewes District Council said: “Public consultation with residents was held earlier this year about repairs to the Promenade in Peacehaven.

“Repair work to the road will start on November 25 and will be carried out in sections.

“We will be advising residents immediately adjacent to each section as to when the works will take place and expect it will take several months to complete all the sections.

“We would like to thank residents for their patience while it is carried out.”
