EMERGENCY services sealed off a block of flats after a woman was found unconscious.
Police officers went to the block in Ashton Rise, Brighton, after 11.30am today.
They remained at the scene while a patient was taken into an ambulance from the front door.
The area in front of the building was cordoned off with police tape, while officers directed traffic.
Paramedics escorted a patient, understood to be a woman, to an ambulance.
Three people have been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.
In a statement the police said: "We were called to a flat in Ashton Rise, Brighton, where it was reported that a woman had been injured.
"She was found unconscious but breathing.
"Shortly afterwards she regained consciousness and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
"Officers currently at the scene say her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening but are still trying to establish exactly how she came by them.
"It has, however, been confirmed that she had not fallen from a window.
"Three people have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Enquiries are continuing."
