THE A27 has been closed after an accident.
The road is shut in both directions after an incident at the junction with the A293.
Motorists are being divered up and over at the Shoreham Bypass junction.
The incident was reported to the ambulance service shortly after 7pm on Monday on the dual carriageway near the Southwick Tunnel.
Two people were left injured in the wreckage of the crash and had to be rescued by fire crews from Preston Circus, Brighton, and Roedean.
The fire service said the crash happened on the easbound carriageway, and the road was blocked while the scene was cleared.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles, and two people were trapped.
"Both casualties were extracted, and were left in the care of the paramedics."
Fire crews left the scene shortly before 9pm.
The ambulance service has been contacted.
