WORKMEN have moved in to tear down a collapsed castle wall after safety fears.
The stretch of Lewes Castle wall crumbled into a house and gardens earlier this month.
Firefighters had been called in with sniffer dogs to see if anyone was trapped in the rubble, but no one was hurt.
Cllr Johnny Denis said one man had a lucky escape, as his office was hit by the falling rubble.
Mr Denis said: βHeβs a film maker and went to Brighton for the day. But when he came back the wall had fallen on the Old Coach House where he works.β
The collapse happened in Castle Ditch Lane, behind Lewes Crown Court.
This week, workmen began to tear down the remainder of the stretch of wall.
The 11th fortifications were built following the Norman conquest by William de Warenne.
It was also significant during the Battle of Lewes in 1264.
