THE threat by so-called "Green" Councillors to end rallies and other events at Madeira Drive is yet another example of how they disrespect our heritage and our civil liberties (Argus 25th November 2019).

These events have been held for decades and usually last just a few hours on an annual basis, yet the authoritarian "Greens" are considering restricting or ending them.

Such events usually bring thousands of people into the city and help to boost our local economy, including shops, pubs, clubs and other attractions.

They also help to keep our city on the map by continuing to give publicity to these heritage and other events which are of great interest to so many people for different reasons.

Maybe these bizarre and restrictive ideas are linked to their mistakes about the Valley Gardens scheme, where they have made proposals with little or no consultation with local residents.

Parts of that scheme are likely to have detrimental consequences throughout the year, causing difficulties for deliveries, emergency vehicles, buses and taxis.

The Valley Gardens scheme is already causing more congestion and pollution elsewhere, as traffic is forced to travel via residential streets rather than the main roads that were designed for the movement of vehicles.

The proposals to restrict or end these long-standing events on the seafront seem to illustrate how those councillors put their own view of "extreme greenism" before heritage, civil liberties and the local economy.

Does that remind you of anything? Beware the Greens.
