THE Green Party has urged the city council not to lose sight of HIV prevention targets on World AIDS Day.

Brighton has the 7th highest HIV diagnosis rate in England, and the highest outside of London.

Green councillors have called on the council to focus on preventing cases of HIV, in line with the city's targets.

Brighton was the first UK city to commit to eliminating new diagnoses, stigma and HIV related deaths by 2030.

The Greens have called on the council to renew support for local HIV organisations and boost work to tackle stigma and discrimination.

According to a recent council report, 22.5 per cent of people with HIV in the South East said they had faced verbal abuse as a result of their diagnosis.

The World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil will be held at New Steine Gardens in Kemptown at 6pm tonight.
