FIRE crews fought a car fire and rescued a cat in an eventful 24 hours.
At 8.19pm yesterday they were called to the vehicle fire in Coast Road, Pevensey.
Crews countered the blaze with a hose and made the scene safe.
Earlier that day East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service had responded to reports of a cat stuck behind a washing machine in Greenbank Avenue, Saltdean. Crews attended and rescued the pet.
These were two of seven incidents the service attended yesterday.
A spokesman said: “At 2.08pm a crew was sent to a property in Hurstwood Road, Buxted, following reports of a bonfire, which was 20ft from a barn.
“At 3.53pm we investigated reports of a smell of possible electrical burning at a property in Solway Avenue, Brighton, and ensured there was no fire.
“At 4.32pm two fire engines were sent to a house in Frant Road, Tunbridge Wells, following reports of smoke in a kitchen, believed to be from a tumble dryer, or washing machine.
“The incident turned out to be a false alarm and firefighters ensured the property was safe.
“At 5.14pm a crew attended an accidental rubbish fire, which was out on arrival, in Chadborn Close, Brighton.
“Then, at 2.56 this morning firefighters were sent to a property in Selborne, Hove, which was flooded due to a burst pipe on the top floor flat.”
