A CAFE which gave a customer a profane response to his review of its service has had unorthodox exchanges with patrons before.

Earlier this week we reported that Neil Masey was shocked at the reply he got from Marwoods Bar and Coffeehouse in Ship Street, Brighton.

He took to Facebook after being dissatisfied with his visit and left a scathing review, saying he would have chosen to visit Greggs but it had closed.

The cafe replied: “You sir are a miserable c**t, stick to Greggs.”

But this is not the only frosty exchange the cafe has had with its customers.

A woman with the username LivaS25 left a one-star review on TripAdvisor titled “disappointed is an understatement”.

She said she had visited with friends after a hen do and thought the cafe looked like “a perfect Saturday hangover cake and coffee spot”.

But in a lengthy string of gripes she criticised the decor questioning whether the cafe had “any money to like get some nice like chairs and wallpaper in?”.

The hard-to-please customer then found fault with her female server who she said was “just TRYING too hard to be nice and accommodating explaining what type of cakes and food they serve” adding that “it just did not seem genuine at all”.

Then she was upset by the fact the cafe did not serve frappuccinos.

She said: “When I went to order a frappuccino she was like ‘sorry we don’t do them here but we’ve got this and this blah blah blah’ woah the rudeness.

“Let me tell you I am a regular at Starbucks and I would NEVER get this kind of attitude there because they are a proper business with a menu to provide for everyone – exactly what this place isn’t.”

One of her friends took a shine to a male member of staff and asked for his number which he declined. She then asked him if he had a girlfriend, but did not receive an answer.

Cafe director Harry Petrakas responded to her saying: “What can we say. Everything in your review is true and we are incredibly sorry for how you were treated on the day.

“I know it’s not much but the offending member of staff, the one who wouldn’t give you his number and told you off about having your own alcohol, no longer works for us.

“We implemented a strict policy, whereby if a customer asks a member of staff for their number or asks if they have a partner, the member of staff must provide accurate information.

“We continue to take all reviews on TripAdvisor incredibly seriously and any and all allegations whereby members of staff fail to appropriately flirt with customers will be dealt with severely.”

Another customer left a review saying: “I used a local website to find the best rated local coffee shop. Marwood came out top. Obviously the voters were all 12-year-old hipsters. We felt very out of place... the shop itself seems to be trying too hard to be hip.”

Mr Petrakas said: “We have written to a number of local websites and, based on your acute observations, asked that they no longer let 12 year olds vote in their coffee shop surveys. We were going to ask that they only block 12 year old hipsters from voting, but thought it best to block all 12 year olds in case.”

Marwoods has been awarded a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence.
