TRAFFIC has ground to a halt after a gas leak forced a busy road to close.

The A259 has been shut in Ferring and an AA spokesman warned drivers to expect queuing traffic in the area.

He said: "The road is closed and there is queueing traffic due to a gas leak on the A259 Goring Street eastbound.

The Argus:

"It is closed from the A280 Angmering Bypass (at the Blue Star Roundabout) to the A2032 Littlehampton Road (at the Goring Crossways).

"Engineers are en route to fix the problem."

A spokesman for gas company SGN warned that "delays are likely" in the area as a result of emwergency work being carried out.

He said: "We’re working to keep local homes and businesses safe and warm by carrying out urgent repairs to our gas network.

The Argus:

"We've needed to close a section of the A259 Littlehampton Road to westbound motorists to safely carry out our network repairs.

"The westbound carriageway will be closed from its roundabout junction with Titmore Lane and a signed diversion will be in place for affected motorists."
