FLIGHTS were grounded at Gatwick Airport due to a "security alert".

Passengers on a grounded easyJet said they believed it was a "security threat made towards aviation" and inbound flights are being diverted. 

Video footage captured the moment police officers entered the plane to investigate the incident.

Emergency services could be seen on a runway which was shut for about half and hour. 

Inbound flights were diverted and outbound flights were held.

It is reported that the plane has now been moved off the runway.

Gatwick has not yet confirmed why flights were altered.
