AN EASYJET flight from Gatwick Airport was forced to declare a mid-air emergency.
Flight U28221 was flying over northern France on its way to Valencia when the alert was sounded at 11am.
It headed for a small regional airport at Chateauroux, south of Paris.
A spokeswoman for Easyjet said: "We can confirm that flight EZY8221 from London Gatwick to Valencia is diverting to Châteauroux airport due to a technical issue which needs to be inspected by engineers.
“The safety of its passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority.”
The plane is currently being inspected and is expected to fly on to Valencia.
One frustrated customer tweeted: “Easyjet can you advise on what time EZY8221 will arrive in Valencia airport as it appears from flight tracker to have landed in mid France.
“I am in departures in airport for EZY8222 to return to London Gatwick, and want to make sure I get home to South Wales in time to vote.”
