PUPILS will be able to enjoy a day at the beach after a grant from a supermarket.

Tesco gave £4,000 to the Wild Beach Outdoor Education scheme run by Sussex Wildlife Trust. The money is set to be used to give children who have never been to the seaside a chance to explore and learn.

Trust fundraising officer Louise Collins said: “We’re very grateful to Tesco for this grant. The scheme is proving very popular.

“Schools are telling us that a small number of their children hadn’t been to the seaside before, and many more had not experienced wild habitat at the beach.

“The schools expect to learn about the wildlife and geographical features, but they are surprised by how much they learn from experiencing a wild space and well-managed risk.

“They tell us that the spirit of adventure that these trips instil in the children is one of the most important learning experiences they’ve had.”

The scheme offers sessions to pupils between Hastings and Seaford.
