I READ the article in The Argus (December 16) reporting that “Argus readers have their say on Duke and Duchess” implying a negative outcome, when, in fact, 51 per cent voted no to stripping the title off Harry and Meghan.

Such absolute nonsense to have started such a rude petition in the first place.

Your caption on Monday should have screamed “Brighton loves you, Your Royal Highnesses Duke and Duchess of Sussex from a majority vote”.

You mentioned 3,696 people have signed the petition to remove the title. What grievance has each of the 3,696 people against the couple? How has each of these voters been personally wounded by the royal couple?

You state 51 per cent said they did not want the titles to be taken away. Therefore the majority wins.

So Argus shut up over this nonsensical idea and stop giving the losers more ammunition and publicity. What a shame it was even brought up.

It is a privilege and honour to have two members of the Royal Family linked with our city and county, and giving people another reason to come and visit this city.

I am delighted Harry and Meghan are linked with Brighton due to their title, to raise Brighton’s image when the city is so often associated with vulgarity and gaudiness.

I apologise to Prince Harry and Meghan for the offensive petition which does not reflect the view of the majority of dwellers here.

I hope the full council will dismiss any further deliberation over the title or be shown up as anti-monarchists.

Argus, please stop appearing biased by perpetuating this ridiculous idea. It is now dead because it lost the vote.
