IN MY view, Nancy Platts’ “View from the Leader” and Graham Chainey’s letter drawing attention to Lloyd Russell-Moyle’s election night acceptance speech (Argus, December 17), should be a cause for concern for the residents of Brighton and Hove.

Clearly Ms Platts hasn’t realised that the electorate could not stomach the thought of Comrade Corbyn and his bedfellows in Momentum running the country.

She would have us believe that she engages in “progressive politics”; the truth is that it was Corbyn’s intention to establish regressive politics.

Ms Platts, offensively, talks of Brighton and Hove as the “People’s Republic”.

Doubtless as a Corbyn disciple she is confusing the city with former communist or left wing states, the type that received Corbyn’s constant sympathies.

Does she not realise that we are a “democracy” and democracies believe in freedom – where citizens have the right to express their opinions – even if they are stupid – and participate in democracy without fear or intimidation.

She talks of Brighton and Hove as “unique and different to the rest of the UK”. But for the fact that the consensus of opinion throughout the country is that Corbyn’s philosophy is unacceptable, this might be a worthwhile boast.

And when all is said and done, it was only when Corbyn and Momentum arrived on the scene that the once great Labour Party lost credibility.

She believes the city will have someone to stand up for it in Parliament. Really?

Mr Chainey’s letter aptly titled “this MP is just a relic of a passing moment in time” suggests otherwise.

The rabid performance of Lloyd Russell-Moyle is typical of a left wing ideologue whose views are likely to conflict with the interests of the city, which is in decline – a situation that is becoming increasingly clear to long-time residents.

In my view, Ms Platts would do well to stop prolonging the arguments advanced during the General Election and starts to focus on the needs of the city, which continues to absorb more and more strangers with no inherent interests.
