A MAN was jailed after he was found driving a stolen car that he claimed he borrowed at the pub.

Andrew Charles was found driving the Toyota, worth £4,500 in Hove.

But the 51-year-old was stopped and then failed to show up to court twice, claiming had been attacked.

District Judge Tessa Szagun said Charles, of no fixed address, was guilty in absence of handling stolen goods, driving without insurance, and failing to surrender to court.

She said: “I don’t think anyone would believe that if someone told them they can borrow a car from someone at the pub that there is anything other than it being extremely dodgy.”

Charles was jailed for 18 weeks.
