A WOMAN has died after being hit by a car.
The crash happened near the Lancing Beach Car Park on the A259 this morning.
The air ambulance landed nearby at about 8am.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "A woman has sadly died after she was in collision with a car in Lancing this morning.
"Emergency services were called to the scene at Beach Green, Brighton Road, Lancing, at 7.20am where the woman, understood to be in her late 50s, had been in collision with a silver BMW.
"The road has been closed in both directions and drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.
"Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to report online or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Desk."
At 11am a spokesman for Adur and Worthing Police warned that the highway was still blocked.
He said: "The A259 Brighton Road in Lancing remains closed in both directions at this time.
"There is a diversion via South Street/Penhill Road.
"Thanks for your patience."
The road reopened shortly after 12pm.
