A VEHICLE which was illegally parked in a public footpath has left the site.

Pedestrians and dog-walkers strolling along the Kingsway in Hove yesterday were surprised to see a large camper van parked on the path near the King Alfred Leisure Centre.

The camper van, which was overlooking the beach, had been issued with a parking ticket but was not removed by Brighton and Hove City Council.

One passer-by, Annie Rimington, said: "This huge, ugly home on wheels is parked illegally on the footpath.

"It’s carefully sited to make the most of beautiful uninterrupted views over the sea and beach and is perfectly positioned to enjoy daily sunrise and sunsets over the sea.

"Even if the owner pays the fine, that is far cheaper than paying for a legal campsite."

The council said the vehicle left the site at 10am this morning.
