A ZOO was delighted to receive a surprise donation of leftover Christmas vegetables.
Staff at Drusillas Park in Alfriston have been sorting through boxes of donated vegetables from Sainsbury’s in Hampden Park in Eastbourne to feed the animals at the zoo.
Sprouts have gone down well with Sulawesi black crested macaques at the park.
Zoo animal manager Mark Kenward said: “We were so overwhelmed with this generous gift.
“There was such an amazing quantity of veg, we decided to share it with our neighbours and donated some to Raystede Centre For Animal Welfare and Plumpton Agricultural College.
“Waste is such an important global issue right now, so to see a leading supermarket taking it seriously and donating rather than wasting food is wonderful.”
