A GIRLS’ football club was delighted to receive a donation of hats.

Members of the Wildcats Girls’ Football Centre, based at The Salts Recreation Ground in Seaford, received cosy beanie hats from the Estate Agent Content Club.

Jerry Lyons, founder of the Seaford-based business, said: “A key part of my business is called the Karma Club where we give back to good community causes every month.

“I’ve seen the effort the coaches put into weekly sessions with the girls and am so impressed with the enthusiasm players show.

“We’re proud to support them.”

The Wildcats Girls’ Football Centre in Seaford is part of a national Football Association (FA) initiative to encourage more girls to play football.

The centre is the only one between Brighton and Eastbourne and is run by Premier United, an FA chartered standard community club.

Coach Michelle Treacy said: “We’re trying to introduce as many young girls as possible to football.

“It’s a brilliant sport and the rise in the number of girls taking it up is encouraging.

“It keeps them active, teaches them the importance of teamwork, builds new friendships and is a lot of fun.”

The team has players aged between five and 12, and they have training sessions every Saturday morning for a small cost of £2.

Michelle said: “We’re very grateful to Jerry and his company for generously providing hats which have made the girls feel even more like a team.

“They will keep them warm while they go through their paces.”
