FREE Christmas tree collections took place yesterday in electric vehicles.

Future of Transport Minister George Freeman visited Brighton to promote a joint government and industry campaign, Go Ultra Low, which aims to promote the use of electric vehicles.

The Christmas trees were picked up and taken to collection points in zero emission electric vans to be turned into compost, energy feedstock or soil improver.

Mr Freeman, who is also Conservative MP for Mid Norfolk, said: “This is our campaign launch for a fresh start to the year.

“Today we are offering a collection service in places where free Christmas tree collections are not offered by the local authority.

“We want to remind people that little changes we can all make are key to tackle global challenges.”
