A SECURITY guard witnessed a boy fall from the top of a multi-storey car park on New Year’s Day, a coroner heard.

Milosz Golasa died at the scene after falling from the car park in Russell Road, near the Debenhams store in Brighton on New Year’s Day at about 9am.

At the opening of an inquest into the 17-year-old’s death at Woodvale Crematorium on Thursday, coroner’s officer Arianna Palermo said: “Police were called to reports of a male having fallen from top floor.

“Ambulance crews had already started CPR on arrival and this was ongoing.”

A helicopter was called to the scene and the road was cordoned off for several hours as emergency services responded.

Passersby described seeing a “major incident” with ambulance crews setting up a tent

Treatment continued but, due to the seriousness of his injuries, Milosz died at the scene.

His death was confirmed shortly after 9.30am.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “We were called at 8.55am when a man was found lying in the street in Russell Road, Brighton, by a member of the public.

“Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.

“He is believed to have fallen from an adjacent multi-storey car park.

“At this time, his death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious.”

He was identified by a passport found in a rucksack at the top of the car park from which he had fallen.

A security guard on the top floor had witnessed the incident and seen a boy climb onto the wall at the edge of the car park fall before falling backwards from the building.

Police officers later found a suicide note on social media, Brighton and Hove coroner Veronica Hamilton-Deeley said.

Milosz was born in Poland on March 24, 2002.

He had previously lived in Brighton and gone to school in the city but had moved with his family to Southampton in 2018, Ms Palermo said.

He was unemployed and single.

Ms Hamilton-Deeley also queried whether there had been any history or “suggestions of substance misuse”.

Miss Palermo said there was “no history, just drink and potentially cannabis use”.

A post-mortem was carried out on January 3 and a provisional cause of death was been given as “multiple injuries” after “a fall from height”.

A full inquest into his death is planned to be held at Woodvale Crematorium in Brighton on May 1.

Ms Hamilton-Deeley said the security guard who witnessed the incident had already given a statement on the incident, and asked for further information from interested parties including Milosz’ GP as well as a full report of the incident.
