VICIOUS winds are set to batter the UK.

Parts of Sussex will be under a yellow weather warning with winds reaching almost 50mph in places.

Powerful gusts will hit Brighton and Hove throughout the weekend and continue into next week.

The weather in Sussex is forecast to be most severe on Monday and the Met Office has placed a yellow weather warning for wind across Chichester.

Winds in the city are predicted to reach 49mph.

A Met Office spokesman said: “A very windy period is expected on Monday afternoon and into the evening with some disruption to travel likely.

“Expect some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport, delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges and some short term loss of power and other services.

“Also, it is likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and large waves.”
