STRONG winds and downpours are expected to hit the county as it is placed under two weather warnings.
Residents in Brighton and Hove have been advised to prepare for severe weather.
A yellow warning for wind was put in place at 12pm today, and a warning for rain followed one hour later.
These will continue until 5am and 9am tomorrow respectively.
A Met Office spokesman warned residents to expect “delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport” with “some bus and train services affected” as well as saying that “short term loss of power and other services is possible” and “it’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and large waves”.
He also added that the “flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely”.
The spokesman said: “Outbreaks of rain will develop this afternoon and continue into Wednesday morning.
“The rain will be heavy at times, especially on hills.
“Many places will see 15 to 25 mm of rainfall with some places perhaps seeing 30 to 40 mm.
“This rain falling onto already very wet ground will likely lead to some localised flooding.
“Southwesterly winds are expected to strengthen this afternoon and evening.
“Gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected quite widely inland, with exposed coasts and hills having gusts of around 60 mph, perhaps locally 70 mph.
“Heavy rain may be an additional hazard in places.”
