A GROUP of thugs pulled a man to the ground and viciously attacked him in broad daylight.

They set upon the victim at 3pm on Saturday in Enys Road, Eastbourne, before taking cash from him.

The 56-year-old man later received hospital treatment for cuts and bruises.

The sustained attack continued until the group were challenged by a passing couple.

Detective Constable Mitchell Humby said: “The attackers only stopped when a couple driving by challenged them - are you that couple? We would like to speak with you as you may have key information.”

He continued: “This was a busy time of day with many drivers and pedestrians in Upperton Road, who may have witnessed this attack.

“We are working to establish the full circumstances of this incident so if you can help, and particularly if you are that couple who shouted out to the suspects – please make contact with us either online or via 101 quoting serial 552 of 19/01.

Sussex Police said the suspects were in a black car, possibly a Mini Cooper.
