A BEAUTY salon was detroyed in a fire overnight.

Eight fire engines were called to the blaze at Pretty Pascalle, in Warren Road Woodingdean just before 4am.

People were told to avoid the area as crews battled the fire, which is thought to have spread from the shop to the flat above.

The fbuilding - including the flat above which was used as an office and store room- was gutted by the blaze. An investigation has begun into the cause.

Warren Road remained closed until 9.30am.

Building control inspectors have now examined neighbouring properties and allowed residents to return home and the road has reopened.

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said:

“At 3:55, East Sussex Fire & Rescue were called to a fire in a ground floor shop and domestic flat above on Warren Road, Woodingdean,

“We had crews from Roedean, Brighton, Hove, Lewes, Barcombe, Newhaven Seaford and an Aerial Ladder Platform in attendance.

“As at 5:45 crews had surrounded the fire and steady progress has been made to put the fire out.

“At the height of the incident six Breathing Apparatus, four Hose Reel jets, 1 in 7 foam and the Aerial Ladder “Platform was used to bring the fire under control.

“The incident is now being scaled down.

“A fire investigation will take place to establish the cause.”
