MORE than 1,000 people have signed a petition to have tennis courts revamped.
Brighton and Hove City Council is being asked to renovate the courts in St Ann’s Well Gardens in Hove.
The petition was started by David Redinha,
who has a tennis talk show podcast called “Unforced error”.
He wrote: “We need to demonstrate that the community is interested in using the courts.
“If we get your help and succeed in getting support from the council to renovate the courts and bring back St Ann’s Well Tennis Club, we will be able to create activities which will benefit the local community of tennis players as well as anyone from further afield who would like to play and participate in our tennis activities.
“All ages, standards, race, religions, abilities are welcome.
“The courts will be in good condition for everyone to play, coaching will be available at the courts as well as social tennis, competitive tennis and social events to unite the community.”
Andrew England, Goldsmid Liberal Democrat ward organiser is backing the petition.
He said: “Local residents are firmly behind the campaign and, despite cutbacks to the council budget, expect their sports facilities to be maintained properly.”
If the petition reaches 1,250, it can be heard at a full meeting of the council.
