CONNOR Durman was kicked off Love Island after a shock elimination with a twist.

After the 25-year-old from Worthing was sent packing his partner Sophie Piper was reduced to tears as she contemplated leaving with her love interest.

But fans of the show questioned the integrity of her tears.

In a surprise announcement on Sunday’s show, islanders were told that the public had been voting for their favourite couple, and it was revealed that Connor and Sophie had finished at the bottom of the pile.

Host Laura Whitmore then delivered the devastating blow that their fellow contestants would choose one of the pair to stay, while the other would be forced to leave the villa.

The islanders said they did not feel Connor, who had previously said he had “put all his eggs in Sophie’s basket”, could continue without his partner in the villa as he had fallen “head over heels” for the sister of former Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes.

Contestants said the weight of the decision made them feel “physically sick” and the coffee bean salesman’s friends fought for him to stay.

But, after a long period of deliberation, it was decided last night that it would be Sophie to stay in the villa.

Connor said: “Leaving the villa without Sophie is not nice. But I just want her to be happy and follow her heart, whatever that means.

“If she was to meet someone or wait for me, we’ll see what happens.”

After this, Sophie was seen crying and described it as a “s*** situation”.

Many fans shared their sympathies, but other avid fans said they were “not buying” her tears, particularly after she celebrated the arrival of a new boy later in the show.

One viewer said: “Sophie on Love Island is remarkable. She has the mad skill of being able to cry with zero tears, it’s incredible.”
