A PRIVATE members’ club says it still plans to open a seafront venue despite residents claiming building works have ground to a halt.

Planning permission was granted for the Soho House development in Madeira Place, Brighton, in April 2016 but the project has been pushed back several times.

The £60 million building was originally planned to open in Spring 2017 but it was later pushed back to Autumn that year and, later, into 2018.

But the construction is still not finished with Soho House blaming these delays on modifications to its designs.

Hoardings were placed around the site in May 2018 sparking hope among residents that work on the club would progress quickly.

But, almost two years on, Argus readers have questioned if the 2016 plans will still come to fruition.

Several noted that they had not seen any construction workers at the seafront site for several months.

The Argus contacted Brighton and Hove City Council for comment, and was directed to Soho House.

A spokeswoman for the business said that it was “still planning to open the house in Brighton” but did not provide any further information.

Questions over progress on the site and a predicted end-date for construction went unanswered as the paper goes to print.

Soho House has venues across the world including in Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Istanbul, Mumbai and Hong Kong. It describes itself as “a private members’ club for people in the creative industries” providing “restaurants, cinemas, workspaces, spas and bedrooms”.
