THOUSANDS of pounds has been granted to a council to bring in eco-friendly transport.
Brighton and Hove City Council has been awarded a £495,000 grant from the Government to promote sustainable travel in the city.
Council officers will use the money to focus on eco-friendly transport projects in Portslade.
The cash will also be used to support the council’s Clean Air Day and Car Free Day later this year.
Council transport chief Anne Pissaridou said as many residents need to use eco-friendly transport as possible if the city is to become carbon neutral in ten years.
“We have declared a climate emergency and we are determined to be a carbon neutral council by 2030,” she said.
“To achieve that goal, we need as many residents, visitors and businesses as possible to travel in a way that is sustainable and reduces carbon emissions.
“This funding will allow us to build on the successes we have had so far.
