A SCHOOL strike over pensions was called off at the last minute but further strikes are set to take place.

Staff at Burgess Hill Girls School were set to down tools on Thursday over the school’s plans to withdraw from the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.

But the strike was called off on Wednesday afternoon so discussions between National Education Union members and the school could take place.

Strikes are still planned for February 26 and 27, as well as March 3, 4, and 5, if an agreement is not reached.

Union officer James Ellis urged school governors to “show good faith” by stopping the school’s withdrawal from the pension scheme.
