RESIDENTS are being urged to avoid a road after a fire broke out in a derelict building.
The blaze started in Rotten Row, Lewes, shortly before 11.30am.
Fire crews have closed the road as a result.
The building is unused and used to be a school.
Four fire engines and four officers are at the scene.
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The public are being asked to avoid the area while we work.”
At 12.30pm, the service provided an update on the incident.
A spokesman said: "We are clearing up and packing up at Rotten Row in Lewes following a fire at a derelict building.
"The fire was contained to one room of the three storey building."
