AN INQUEST was opened into the death of a man who fell from a hotel upper floor.

At Brighton Coroner’s Court assistant coroner Catharine Palmer opened the inquest for James Mair, who died last Tuesday, February 4 after falling from The Grand hotel in King’s Road, Brighton, late on the Monday evening.

Coroner’s officer Jane Woodman said James was found by hotel staff after falling from the seventh floor of the hotel at approximately 11pm on Monday, February 3.

Paramedics treated James at the scene before transferring him to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The 26-year-old from Hove had been staying at the hotel and had spent the day with his family, the court heard.

A post mortem examination was carried out on February 6 and a provisional cause of death was given as multiple injuries following a fall.

Ms Palmer said she would need to hear from James’ family, his GP and the treatment consultant at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in order to reach a conclusion of how James came by his death. The full inquest has been adjourned until May 12 at 10.30am.
