PASSENGERS on a train had to be evacuated after it struck a tree.
People on the Hastings to London service had to be moved off the train after fallen tree in the early hours of this morning.
Network Rail has apologised for disruption after the incident, near Battle.
A spokesman said the driver checked the train for damage before it was moved back to West St. Leonard's.
Network Rail said: "A considerable amount of damage has been done to the service that struck the tree.
"All passengers have been evacuated to another train and will be moved back to West St. Leonard's.
"We are sorry for the disruption this morning, services will take some time to recover as carriages and crew get back in their correct places to run to the timetable."
At 1pm, Network Rail said normal service has resumed.
