A FAMILY grocery store is closing after almost a century of service.

G.A. Brown and Son in Brighton Road, Worthing, made the announcement yesterday.

Owner Paul Brown said: “Due to the sale of the shop premises we will be closing on Saturday 15th February 2020.

“I am delighted that TG Fruits will be taking on the deliveries to my catering customers.

“Obviously it is with some sadness that the shop is closing after more than 90 years of trading and three generations of the Brown family.

“From 10am tomorrow we will be selling any remaining stock at reduced prices.”

Customers took to social media to express their sadness at the news.

One loyal customer said: “(This is ) very sad.

“(I have) used you guys for years through my career as a chef.

“Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for Worthing and surrounding area.”

Another said: “Unexpected and very sad news, sorry to hear it.

“End of a great era and family business.”

Mr Brown expressed his gratitude to customers for their support.

He said: “I would like to thank all our customers over the many years of trading.”
