LIFEBOAT volunteers were sent to reports of a person in the water.
The RNLI and Coastguards were called to the sea at Brighton Pier at 2am today.
They carried out an “extensive search” but nothing was found.
The teams were stood down because the call was believed to be a hoax, the Coastguard said.
It follows the extensive searches launched in Brighton after a 22-year-old woman was seen going into the water during Storm Dennis on Sunday.
The woman was not found and is presumed to have died.
