TRAINS towards London Victoria will double in size to ease congestion and avoid delays while upgrades are made to Gatwick Airport station.

Govia Thameslink Railway and Hove MP Peter Kyle announced services from Hove and Portslade towards London will double from four to eight carriages from spring onwards.

Trains will also no longer combine with services at Haywards Heath, avoiding delays.

Labour MP Mr Kyle said he had secured “the best of both worlds” for Hove and Portslade stations.

“Track upgrades and more carriages will make a huge difference to us here, as Hove and Portslade stations have always been seen as the poor relative of Brighton Station until now,” he said.

Improvement works at Gatwick Airport station are expected to last for two years, doubling the size of the concourse.
