HOODED raiders struck a pensioner and punched him in the face during a robbery in his own home.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack in Terminus Place, Hailsham at 7pm on Thursday.

A 70-year-old man said he was struck in the face, and said he was struck with a metal object which may have been a torch. He was taken to the Eastbourne General Hospital for treatment.

Police say his wallet containing bank cards and £300 in cash was taken.

Both suspects are in their early 20s, one is a short black man of slight build, the other is a white man, 5ft 11ins, weighing about 12st.

Detective Constable Carly Owen, investigating, said: “The victim was struck with a metal object, possibly a large torch, and was punched several times in the face.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious last Thursday evening at this location.”
