THE owner of a kebab shop under police investigation has lost his licence after breaching its terms.

Afshin Ali-Zadeh had his licence to run Istanbul Grill in Bognor High Street revoked by Arun district councillors in a meeting yesterday.

Sussex Police are investigating the takeaway after three women alleged they had found pills in their food in December.

Council officer Sarah Meeten told councillors yesterday Mr Ali-Zadeh had breached his licence by not employing doormen or installing CCTV when he should have.

A police representative told the meeting the kebab shop owner had been unable to view his own CCTV to allow them to investigate his complaints.

Officers had to use the services of a specialist to be able to see the video.

It has not yet been established what the pills were made up of, the meeting heard.

Arun District Council technical services chief Matt Stanley warned business owners should obey their licences or lose them.

“The decision by the council’s licensing sub-committee sends a robust message to all licence holders in the district,” he said.

“They must actively look to promote the licensing objectives or face the loss of their licence.”

The police investigation into the Istanbul Grill is ongoing.

A 42-year-old man and a 30-year-old man arrested in a December raid on the takeaway have been bailed by police until March 30.
