FIRE crews rushed to tackle a blaze last night.
A large fire broke out at an industrial unit in Stane Street, Chichester, and crews arrived at the scene at 8.16pm.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the building was "well alight" and advised residents in the area to keep their doors and windows shut.
Stane Street had to be closed from the Chichester Bypass roundabout to the entrance to the Viridor Household Waste Recycling Site.
Crews from Chichester and Bognor Regis worked to extinguish the fire, together with the incident command unit from Haywards Heath Fire Station. Crews from Arundel and East Preston were also mobilised to the incident.
A drone was used to help crews gauge the extent of the fire.
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “Firefighters used four main jets, two hose reels, two hydrants and compressed air foam to bring the fire under control. They also used four sets of breathing apparatus.
“Crews remained at the scene for a number of hours damping down and turning over, using a thermal imaging camera to identify any remaining hotspots, with the last crew leaving the scene at around 1am.
“Officers have returned to the scene this morning to carry out a reinspection.”
