A LARGE new store is hoping to turn a net profit after opening over the weekend.

The Maidenhead Aquatics shop is the latest addition at Brighton Marina.

The business, which is the largest of its kind in the UK, sells fish as pets with staff also offering expert advice to visitors on how to look after them.

The company was founded more than 30 years ago and is now owned by Scott Young, who was inspired to enter the industry by his Dad’s pet fish as a youngster. Since joining Maidenhead Aquatics he has steered the business to success with 160 UK stores giving jobs to 160 people.

Mr Young said: “I took an interest in fish-keeping and my hobby became my career. Everyone who works for us is passionate about fish-keeping and we believe that a key ingredients to our success is employing fish-keepers for fish-keepers, people who understand the industry and can offer the best advice.”

Mr Young said it had been difficult to set up the Brighton Marina store as special equipment had to be installed to make the building more healthy for the fish. The site was officially opened over the weekend.

Kirsty Pollard, centre manager for Brighton Marina said: "This is an exciting new addition for Brighton Marina.

"Not only because of the nautical theme but because Maidenhead Aquatics are leading the way in educating children on how to look after their fish properly which is really encouraging."
