A FLOOD alert has been issued as relentless rain continues to fall across the county.
The warning has been placed over Patcham by the Environment Agency.
A spokesman said: “Groundwater levels are high, rising and predicted to continue to rise.
“So far this week we’ve measured 30mm of rain in Brighton, half the monthly average, and this is on top of 80mm recorded in the first 3 weeks of February.
“A further 30mm could fall over Friday and Saturday.
“If this rain occurs, water could begin to appear in a small number of basements.
“Previous events suggest impacts may initially affect Patcham, in Old London Road and Peacock Lane.”
This comes as Sussex braces itself for storm Jorge with heavy rainfall is also expected from the early hours of Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Several yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for strong winds and rain over the weekend.
