AFTER watching Dispatches on catch-up television, am I one of many or a few that are concerned with the ascent of Amazon?

It’s hard to start with any positives.

The only one I can really think of is it’s easier to buy stuff. I’m guilty too, I’ve bought items via the website because it’s so easy to do so.

But look at what is happening as a result. For a start, from a tax perspective, they are primarily based abroad, so of all their profits, very little arrives back in the UK in the form of taxation.

They are killing the high street, all the online buying takes away the need for shops and stores to be on the ground.

A fleet of pollution spewing delivery vehicles are required, adding to the traffic woes.

Amazon is gathering heaps of personal information on every individual who uses them.

My Alexa speaker only needs to hear me say the word, Alexa, to respond. Is it listening to everything else? Who said Big Brother had to be a authoritarian government? The way we are heading, that power may be heading to the corporations.
