ARMED police rushed to a residential street after receiving reports of a man with a machete.

Officers and dog units poured into the Bevendean area of Brighton shortly before 5pm as they responded to the incident.

The man fled a house in Kenilworth Close shortly before officers arrived, leaving the machete at the scene.

Now the force is searching the area for the man, and armed units have handed the incident over to unarmed officers.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to Kenilworth Close, Brighton, at 4.41pm to reports of a man in possession of a machete.

"The man left the scene before officers arrived and is not thought to still be in possession of the machete.

"Efforts are ongoing to locate the man.

"This is an ongoing incident and no further details are available at this time."
